A native of South Dakota, Edward Hlavka developed an early passion and natural ability for sculpture. While still in grade school his work was included in the "South Dakota Outstanding Young Artists Traveling Exhibition". As a teenager, he toured Italy and was influenced by the works of the Renaissance masters and later returned to study figurative sculpture in France.
After attending the College of Art and Design in Minneapolis, he continued to hone his skills with workshops, classes, apprenticeships and an inexhaustible desire.
Hlavka's work has been exhibited at prestigious national shows including the National Sculpture Society's "Masquerade" exhibition at the Tower of Americas in New York City and Cheyenn's Old West Museum Show, where he received the Gallery Choice Award and a first place sculpture award. Other awards include the Members and Associates Award from Allied Artists of America. His works can be found in galleries, public and private collections across the nation and he enjoys a reputation for attention to detail and grace of figurative design.
Hlavka's most recent commission is a monument representing the Oneida Indian Nation for the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of the American Indian, in the Mall in Washington, DC.
Mr. Hlavka is a member of the Allied Artists of America and a professional member of the National Sculpture Society. |
